IMPORTANT NOTE: Focal released model 20-08-87 tripod with TWO SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT HEADS that use a DIFFERENT QUICK RELEASE PLATE
See the last photo! This plate ONLY FITS the Generation 1 Head
This is easily identified by a black one-piece Mechanism/Lever with the words "LOCK < > UNLOCK" on it, and a clearly rectangular receptacle.
If your has the almost square receptacle, and the flat metal locking mechanism with the lever separate from the mechanism, then you need a quick release plate for the Generation 2 head because this plate WILL NOT FIT.

This is the original quick release plate that came on the 1st Generation Focal 20-08-87 Tripod and is a LONG DISCONTINUED plate that is not available anywhere, and THERE ARE NO SUBSTITUTES that will work! . This is the ONLY ONE we have!

The Focal 20-08-87 Tripod is a sturdy, well made tall tripod!
You know the old saying "they don't make 'em like this anymore". Well in this case, they do, but they are EXPENSIVE.
More common cheaper tripods DO NOT COMPARE.
Well put yours back into service with this quick release plate (or keep it in service by having a backup in case you lose yours).

A quick release plate will attach to the camera's tripod mount and allows you to quickly and easily attach or remove the camera from a compatible tripod without having to waste time fumbling with the threaded mount.
Having the same number of quick release plates as the number of cameras and/or large telephoto lenses in use allows you to leave one on each, enabling the rapid change of equipment with minimal fuss, essential for the professional or advanced amateur photographer. Always good to have a spare.
