Many old tripods were very well made sturdy tripods that didn't have a built in quick release plate. Do you have one? Modernize it! Rather than attach your camera directly to the tripod, attach this assembly and quick release. The result is you can have a great tripod with a modern quick release for much less than a newer tripod (and much better quality than a cheaper new one).
You can mount it to most light stands as well by using the included 1/4-20 to 3/8-16 adapter to convert the assembly.
All metal, comes with male 3/8-16 thread (removable with included allen key) and the 1/4-20 to 3/8-16 adapter.

A quick release plate will attach to the camera's tripod mount and allows you to quickly and easily attach or remove the camera from a compatible tripod without having to waste time fumbling with the threaded mount.
Having the same number of quick release plates as the number of cameras and/or large telephoto lenses in use allows you to leave one on each, enabling the rapid change of equipment with minimal fuss, essential for the professional or advanced amateur photographer. Always good to have a spare.
