Do you have a tripod that doesn't have a built in quick release plate? Give it quick release capability with this Quick Release Assembly! Rather than attach your camera directly to the tripod (making attaching and removing your camera for changes a slow process), attach this quick release assembly. The result is a tripod with a modern quick release for much less than a newer tripod (which makes even more sense if you have one of the many very well made sturdy old tripods that didn't have a built in quick release plate).
Double action safety lever releases the camera plate from the base.
