Rather than attach your camera directly to the tripod (making attaching and removing your camera for changes a slow process), attach this quick release assembly. The result is a tripod with a modern quick release for much less than a newer tripod (which makes even more sense if you have one of the many very well made sturdy old tripods that didn't have a built in quick release plate).
