Steve Martin plays the role of Peter Sanderson, a divorced, straight-laced, uptight L.A. Lawyer who still loves his ex-wife and can't figure out what he did wrong to make her leave him. However, Peter's trying to move on and wants to dive back into dating after his divorce, but has a hard time meeting the right women. Then he thinks he has met the girl of his dreams, a fellow lawyer he met with online dating. The two agree to meet in the flesh, but the woman he meets -- an escaped African-American convict named Charlene (Queen Latifah) -- is not what he expected. She moves in and really begins to shake up his boring suburban lifestyle. But along the way they learn to become friends.
