Hear Them Again! Readers Digest Collectors Edition 10 Vinyl LP 33RPM Record set

a Readers Digest Collectors Edition Box Set containing 10 LP 33RPM Vinyl records

Vintage 1968 set of Original Recordings by the All-Time Popular Singing Stars!
Hear Bing Crosby, Dinah Shore, Eddy Arnold, Ella Fitzgerald, Enrico Caruso, Harry Belafonte, Kate Smith, Lena Horne, Louis Armstrong, Mario Lanza, Perry Como, Rosemary Clooney.

The box set also comes with a nice booklet containing info on the artists and songs.

If you who love recorded music from the 1900s through the 50s, this box set is well worth getting for your collection.
If you've already gotten RCA's 2 lp set "60 Years Of Music America Loves Best", this 10 lp box set covers the same era featuring a lot of recordings released on RCA Victor's different labels before 1960. So if you'd like to get your hands on a collection that offers more music than the 2 lp set "60 Years Of Music America Loves Best", this set is highly recommended!

The 122 songs on Reader's Digest's 1968 box set are from RCA's Bluebird, Red Seal and Victor archives. LP labels claim these are reprocessed stereo.

Each record has one or two "themes." The set's deluxe box-in-a-box storage case is apparently designed to last centuries. Heavy stock paper disc sleeves are lined with plastic and have graduated notches cut in the upper right corner to make locating a specific record easy (when they're in 1 to 10 order). A 32-page album-sized booklet offers numerous photos, plus detailed paragraphs for each artist and song.

RANDOM TRIVIA
The one-minute orchestral intro of "I Surrender Dear" has been edited out. "The Song is You" is from Frank Sinatra's only solo RCA session. His later association with arranger/conductor Axel Stordahl originated during the waxing of this track and three others. "I Love Luisa" was pressed on experimental 33-1/3 discs that had 78-sized grooves. There's a full page essay and plot synopsis for "Porgy & Bess." Jim Reeves' second RCA single, "Bimbo" was a C&W #1 hit. Twenty-year-old Teddy Wilson is pianist on Satchmo's 1935 recording of "I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues."

"Goodnight My Love" is one of the rarest 78s. It was recalled soon after release because uncredited singer Ella Fitzgerald was under contract to Chick Webb and DECCA. Hoagy Carmichael wrote "Rockin' Chair" for Mildred Bailey after he heard her bemused comment about getting stuck "in an old rocking chair." Pianist on "Holiday For Strings" is Lou Busch, later the musical director/arranger of Allen Sherman's song parody LPs. Blind vocalist Joe Mooney ("Nina Never Knew") played piano/organ/accordion and arranged for several bands before joining the Sauter-Finegan group.
