Reliable Typewriter & Adding Machine Corp. made several versions of the Addometer
This is the HARD TO FIND Feet and Inches version.

How it apparently works...

For addition the stylus is placed in the hole against the appropriate large, inner number and dialed clockwise.
For subtraction the stylus is placed in the hole against the appropriate small outer number and dialed counter-clockwise.
Carry is automatic, and the instrument is cleared by pulling out the tab at bottom right.

In this feet and inches version the wheel second from the right has numbers to 11 for dealing with inches. The wheel on the right deals with eigths and quarters of an inch.

Measures approx. 296 x 50 x 15 mm (11.75" x 2.0" x 0.6"). Instructions in English, German, French and Spanish. The stylus fits in on the end of the Addometer. Has a built in "Clearing Lever". Made in U.S.A. 1900s - 1960s. The first Addometer was made in 1927. This looks to us like an "early" one, but we're not experts. Guestimate it's from the late 1920's to early 1930's.

The Addometer was very popular and together with competitors such as the Lightning Calculator were produced for many years until cheap electronic calculators were available.
